Restoring a Mail from the Archive - Implications

Hi, I'm Using EV 10.0.3.

The users are very keen on understanding when mails are archived and expired.  We have just discovered that restoring a mail from EV to changes the modified date, that is, the restored mail is not archived next time the Archive Task Runs. This showed up during testing and was confirmed by an article found by a colleague.

This is my first deployment since training and because

The customer is writing user comms and wants to understand the following:

  • confirmation that restored items are not removed from the vault
  • the restored item with its new modified date will be archived when it's eligible
  • the restored item with its new modified date will be expired when it's eligible (assuming it's archived)

Hi to all EVguys.....

I got a request to remove every permissions from EVDA for all users (including EV service account and other administrators) except a specific one. I removed the admin roles from all users, except the one I was asked to keep, and for all "normal" domain accounts it was successful and I wasn't even able to login. For EV service account, despite the fact that I removed the roles, I was able to login to the EVDA console and make several changes. Am I missing something or is this the default behavior?

Unable to backup Vault Store Database

I am having problem backing up "Vault Store DB (SQLServer/EVExchangeVaultStore)" after Enterprise Vault migration to new server. Everything seems to be working fine. I can backup other EV things but cannnot back Vault Store DB. I only migrated to new server. The EV version did not change.

EV 9.0.4

Windows 2008 R2

Backup Exec 2010 R3

SQL 2008 R2

Any input?

10.0.4 CHF3 - can't restore after hotfix

Hi,

Recently applied CHF3 to EV 10.0.4 and found that we couldn't restore items to Outlook using archive explorer. Checked event viewer and saw 6287 and 29014 errors with 'access denied'.

Have tried this https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH...

​But that didn't help. Uninstalled CHF3 and restores were again possible.

Has anyone had similar issues with this CHF and is there a known resolution?

Any help appreciated!

Enterprise Vault Email Archiving Migration from EV 10.0.1 to EV 11.0.1

Enterprise Vault  10.0.1

OS - Windows 2008 R2 x64

Want to upgrade to Enterprise Vault 11.0.1

OS - Windows 2012 R2 x64

Exchange Mailbox Archiving.

Please suggest ways this can be achieved. I have Enterprise Vault eDiscovery installed as well.

Hello All,

thanks for the time.  we have been doing some DA searches and we are constantly seeing this whether it's a single keyword or multiple...and each time its different archives.  I rebuilt a few but new ones show up.  with either of the following errors:

"the search could not be performed due to the index not being searchable." 

or 

"index search failed: %1 Index: %3 Internal reference: %2 (0xc0041c0e)"

I have been doing some research and I've come across a few articles to change the up PoolUsageMaximum registry key... I changed it to 50% ... still same issue. restarted DA server.  updated memory. 

Also saw some with articles said to change the date time format to a period... however that is already the case.

Lastly saw this one http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/discovery-accelerator-not-properly-finding-archived-emails

said to update the 10.0.4 CH3... at the moment we are at 10.0.3...  can I install the hotfix without upgrading to 10.0.4 ... meaning will the hotfix automatically update the app to 10.0.4 or will I need to go to 10.0.4 ...then do the cumulative.  we were thinking of moving to 11 soon...

EV 11 - IMAPEnabled.html Not Sent

Hello,

I have EV installed at a custoemer and they have IMAP enabled.

Users can be enabled for IMAP access but IMAPEnabled.html is not sent when the provisioning task is run even though it is configured to.

The error that results is: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.

Someone also asked this question about 11 months ago which can be found here.

Is the certificate error related to Exchange? The interesting thing is that when users are enabled for mailbox archiving the notification email is successfully sent.

Tracking of sis parts in the databases

Hello together,

I’ve got a question regarding the tracking of sis parts.

From my understanding Enterprise Vault tracks dvs files in the watchfile table of the vaultstore database.

But where do we track the dvssp and dvssc files?

The membertables of the fingerprint database contain a column named “secured” but the watchsispartfile table in the vaultstore database doesn’t contain something like this.

What I want to do is:

I have an old item in the journalarchive table where backupcomplete is 0 and I want to find out why it’s still 0.

The corresponding entry in the watchfile table shows itemsecured = 1.

So I made a dumpsaveset to see which sis parts are inbound.

I used the characters after the ~ of the sis parts to identify the membertable on the fingerprint database – took a look at this table and found a fitting id with secured = 0

I’m not sure how to proceed further. 

Sharing is configured for the whole VSG and items stay in the original location until backup is complete

Inquiry regarding Retention Category

We have Enterprise Vault 10.0.4. I want to change the retention category for the items that are archived by the Journal from 10 to 5 years.



So Storage Expiry process will work for the newly archived items for 5 years. But we want to learn is there any way to delete old items which are archived with the 10 Years retention Category?

I am wondering if this is possible at all to make Data Insight spit out a list of all the files a user has access to.  The example:  An employee is terminated so I want to submit a form that queries Data Insight and generates a listing of all the files I have permission to.

Tracking who deleted a file or folder w/ Data Insight

Can I leverage Data Insight to track down who deleted a file or a folder?

Use case:  Someone calls the Helpdesk saying that Super Important folder is missing and they need to be able to access that folder.  So  I open up data insight and navigate to the filer and show who deleted that file?

Or is this not a proper use case of the system?

I want to know if EV 11.0.1 CHF2 supports Exchange 2010 SP3 RU 11. I currently have Exchange 2010 SP3 RU3, however we wish to upgrade.

Also, what all things should be taken care of from an EV admin's perspective while performing this upgrade? Like, any changes to OWA extensions etc?

First questions, I have EV 10 FSA server and in Archive general properties for users, the "Bill usage to" is blank. Is PopulateBillingAccount registry value applicable to EV FSA?

Second Question, if yes (from above), from EV FSA reporting, will this show the number of users accessing the archives?

Office Mail App

Hi,

Just installing the Office Mail App on some test users. I had to install the certificate first and I followed the guide at http://www.veritas.com/docs/000070566 all seems OK, I can browse to https://EVServer but i get errors when accessin the Search.

Your search request failed.
Wait and try again. If the problem persists, contact your Enterprise Vault administrator. 

There are no relevant errors in the event logs (SEV, Application or System).

I do get the below in the EVSearchClientLog:

IIS show only return code '200' (there is a single 301)

Any ideas where to start?

FSA Placeholders not getting created

Hi,

I have installed EV11.0.1 for FSA Archiving. We have added the CIFS shares hosted on EMC VNX 5700 as the FSA targets. We have setup the Archiving task to archive the data that is stored on the CIFS shares.

When we are running the Archiving task it is archiving the data that is stored on the CIFS shares on the first run and the reports shows Archived and shortcut NotCreated. I have setup "remove safetycopy - after backup " and have selected to use Archive bit trigger file.

I'm using a script that will create a file called "IgnoreArchiveBitTrigger.txt" on the Vault store and when the partition scan starts it will change the file to .old i.e. "IgnoreArchiveBitTrigger.old".

So, after the first archiving task completes the I put the EV into a backup mode and after sometime exit the backup mode. Once the Vault store and Indexes are out of the backup mode then I run the script which will create the IgnoreArchiveBitTrigger file and then the partition scan runs and changes this file to .old.Once the above mentioned process is completed then I start the archiving task all over again using the run now option so that now it can create the shortcuts but surprisingly the shortcuts doesn't get created and the report shows "AlreadyArchived" and "ShortcutNotCreated".

I can see that the size of the storageQueue is incresing but the Vault Store does not get any data in it.

Any ideas whats happening...

Shortcut doesn't open

Every couple days, I receive support request that user can't open there shortcut, I test most of the time I don't have any problem (my Outlook) but other desktop in my room have. I restart the Enterprise Vault Admin Service, all everything start working fine.

What have I tried to resolve the problem:

  • Add ou change the following Registry Keys/value
    • RestartAllMAPITaskIntervalMins = 1440 (DEC)
    • RestartOnMAPIMutexError = 1
    • ProfileExpire = 1
    • Removed the "Closest DC" Key
  • Run OWAUser.wsf again to create EVAnon VDir
  • Reinstall the lasted OWA 2010 Extensions (Symantec Enterprise Vault OWA 2010 Extensions 10.0.4.1354 - Version: 10.0.17738) on all CAS server

I don't have any entries in the event viewer.

I'm study the possibilite of adding a schedule tasks, every day, to restart the Enterprise Vault Task Controller Service, if doesn't resolve, I will change so it restart the Enterprise Vault Admin Service.

My environment:

Enterprise Vault (All server have 16GB):

Windows 2008 R2 Server Enterprise Service Pack 1 64-bit (Windows Cluster) - Enterprise Vault 10.0.4.1189 - Storage Service, Index Services (Install but not used),Task Controller Service and Shopping Service

Windows 2012 R2 Server Standard (full installation) 64-bit (standalone) - Index Services 

SQL Server:
Windows 2008 R2 Server Enterprise Service Pack 1 64-bit (Windows Cluster) - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

Exchange Server
Windows 2008 R2 Server Enterprise (full installation) Service Pack 1 64-bit (DAG)
Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP3 RU 11

We have 12788 archive, only the last month is not archived. We have bettew 3000 to 4500 items access daily by an average 1000 users.

I suspect this is a performance issue because thos only started to happen after we enabled 9000 user.

Can some please confirm this? or givem me other alternitive way to look at this problem?

Migrate Exchange 2010 Archived Mailboxes to O365

One of our clients are migration their Exchange 2010 archived mailboxes to O365. The concern is that when the users are migrated, it will break the link (stub) between legacy EV and destination mailbox (on Exchange online) which will leave the users unable to access the historical data.

Is there a way for users to have access to their legacy archives while the mailbox is being migrated to O365?

  1. What are the migration options to maintain the stubb connection intact?
  2. Speaking to one 3rd party professional, he suggested that stubs lose connection will depend how the users are migrated from Exch to O365. What method people follow to ensure continuity of legacy EV system?
  3. Any document to support the above discussion would be appreciated.

Running SetEVExchangePermissions script

Hi

Having run the above script, I don't have the luxury of being able to restart the Exchange Information Store as this is on a live Exchange server. How long would this normally take to complete? I'm not sure on what factors need to be considered - does it, for example, need to contact every DC or replicate data arrange EXchange. Could it typically take all night?

It's been about 2 hrs since I ran the script and deployment scanner is still saying the permissions aren't set.
